I am here due to many many many failures and success. Did i ever in my wildest dreams believe I would become a fitness instructor and personal trainer. Here's why.
As a child i was very very shy. A true introvert, and still am to this very day. I wanted to marry and have children. That was my main goal. I did both and now have 2 beautiful daughters and a step daughter who have in turn blessed me with 5 beautiful grandchildren.
Lets step back in time. We had been stationed to Springfield, MA. We moved with our only daughter at the time into military housing. This was in 1982. After going to a Home Interiors party, I wanted to get the pieces at wholesale (who wouldn't right). So i started checking into how to go about it. The closest dealer was in Worcester. Too far from there to have a business. But they gave me a challenge. If i could get 10 people scheduled, on my books for the next month, I could order my items and get started. I had mentioned i was a true introvert right! I had to go door to door and ask people to take a chance on me and book a party. After much fear, I did just that!
I ended up with a GREAT business with no one else in that area. It was a lot of hard work especially when we added another daughter to our family. My husband was based on submarines and was gone a lot. I grew so much from that experience.
Moving forward a few years, I was watching a tv show with a fitness instructor named Charlene Prickett. She said get up and get moving. I did and never stopped. I used canned food for weights and eventually bought a step for step aerobics.
In 1989, we moved from Chattanooga, TN to Burlington, KS. I must say i was not very happy. It is a very small town and i didn't know a soul. I had heard there was an excellent recreation center, that had by chance opened the month we moved there.
I checked to see if they had any aerobic classes and they DID! I went. I had a blast and a passion. It was an outlet and also a type of addiction at that time. After several months, the current instructor was wanting to begin another career so was looking for someone to take over her classes. She asked me. I was excited but also so unsure of what i was taking on. She took me to talk to the director, Salli Stewart. She gave me a chance! I continued to increase my education, getting my ACE Group Fitness Certification and then followed with my Personal Trainer certification in 1995. I have continued to keep my CEC's up and my Personal Trainer Certification up to date.
My personal growth had been amazing. I feel so very blessed to be so very fit and have such a wonderful fitness following. Its not always been easy, in fact a little hard at times, but i love what I do!
Now i am 61, and can say i can ride 100 miles on a bike, run a 10K and much more. Those are my physical successes. I love the mental and the growth i have had in my life in general.
Now my goal is to inspire others to become MORE. MORE than you were yesterday.
Anything is possible!
